Celebrating Our Commitment to Dementia Awareness

For over seven years, our staff and children have worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Society to deepen our understanding of dementia and explore how we can support those affected. Through dedicated learning programmes, we’ve raised awareness and built a culture of empathy and care within our school community.

This year, our efforts were recognised in a very special way—we were nominated for, and proudly won, The Barbara Award! This award honours Barbara Hall, who founded Bristol Dementia Action Awareness (BDAA) with her husband Tony after her own dementia diagnosis. Barbara, a former nursery nurse, devoted her life to supporting families, children, and young people.

The Barbara Award is presented annually to a school or children’s group that has made the greatest impact in promoting dementia awareness and supporting those living with dementia. Following a formal ceremony, we were thrilled to welcome Barbara’s husband, Tony, to our assembly on Monday, where he presented the award to all our children—recognising their incredible commitment and compassion.
