SPORTS / OLYMPIC WEEK 2021
Wow! What a superb week at Westbury-on-Trym Academy's Sports Week/Olympic Week 2021! All of the children took part in a phenomenal amount of events and activities and, truly, showcased the values of the Olympics: friendship, excellence, respect, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
Our week kicked off with the children taking part in a sponsored fitness circuit with GB's Olympic Decathlete Matt Lee. The children also managed to raise an incredible amount of money with Sports For Champions UK! Overall, we raised a whopping £4,353.51!
From this, all of the children took part in an incredible Sports Day, where the children entered in a number of throwing, jumping and throwing circuits in the morning.
In the afternoon, the excitement really stepped up with the traditional track and field events! The noise level escalated with hundreds of children cheering on their house groups: Centaurs, Phoenix, Dragons and Pegasus. The children took part in the 60m dash, the hurdles, the skipping race and the relay races. Overall, the children had an excellent day and really supported one another. A huge thank you to Bristol Rovers and SHINE for assisting us.
To conclude Sports Week/Olympic Week 2021, the children were involved in a number of unique workshops courtesy of Sporting Dreams. The children were introduced to kurling, archery and also Quidditch… which was a huge hit!
All of the members of Westbury-on-Trym Academy loved the week and we have encouraged more children to get active and inspire them to experience a variety of different sports.
Thank you to all of children and adults involved and thank you to the teachers for motivating the children to keep pushing on!
